  • June 27 -- Two men were the victims of a late-night home invasion on South Hermitage Avenue, police said.  The victims, aged 26 and 22, were inside their residence watching TV when they heard a knock at the window shortly after midnight Saturday, police said. The men looked outside but saw no one, and moved onto the porch outside, where police said they were approached by a group of armed suspects.  The suspects forced the men inside the house, where they were told to lie down and hand over money, cell phones, wallets and the keys to one of the victim's Mercedes Benz.  While being searched, the 26-year-old victim was hit in the head by a gun, which caused it to accidentally discharge. No one was injured as a result of the shot being fired, and the victim refused medical treatment, according to reports.

  • June 21 -- Around 5:15 a.m. Sunday, police said three men were beaten with a shotgun stock held by one of two suspects who burst into a home on the 100 block of South Logan Avenue. An 18-year-old man sleeping on the couch downstairs was awakened by knocking at the door. Getting up to see who was there, the door swung open, and the shotgun-wielding robber hit him in the forehead. That suspect went upstairs as his partner, who was carrying a handgun, tied up the 18-year-old with a belt.  Upstairs, the suspect with the shotgun dragged a 22-year-old man out of bed and pushed him onto the ground, hitting him with the shotgun and taking $100 cash from him. The suspect then proceeded to the room of a 55-year-old man, who police say he beat about the face and body with the shotgun while demanding more money, more jewelry, and the location of a safe.  The 55-year-old victim surrendered his wallet, identifications, $200 cash and two gold chains. The two robbers fled.  The 18-year-old received swelling to his forehead, but refused medical attention. The 22-year-old was treated at the hospital and received five staples to close a wound in his head, while the 55-year-old needed sutures to close a laceration on his left eye.  The suspects are described as black males, one in his 20s, 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black gloves, and wielding a shotgun, and the second as 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, a with a silver revolver.

  • June 20 -- Just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old city man answered the door to his home on the 400 block of Liberty Street to find three men dressed in black hoodies and ski masks. One was armed with a handgun, another with a knife.  Police said the men ordered the victim into the basement of the home, then made their way to the upstairs, where a 45-year-old woman, 19-year-old man, 18-year-old man, 15-year-old male, and 7-year-old boy were.  In the bedroom where the woman was, the invaders stole cash, a watch, and a cell phone, then the suspect with the gun fired one shot which struck the bed. The 19-year-old and 18-year-old fled the house, only to return when police arrived on a shots-fired call. Police said the suspects disappeared before their arrival. No one was injured, but the woman was taken to the hospital for observation for shock. Two suspect descriptions are available: one, a black or Hispanic male, 6 feet tall, thin build, wearing all black clothing; and the second, a black or Hispanic male, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, husky build, and armed with a knife.

  • June 9 -- A man suffering a gunshot wound to the head was found at the intersection of Oakland and Hoffman about 2:30 Tuesday morning.  Detailed to the area on the report of gunshots fired, Police found Hassan M. Canty, 23, on the ground near the railroad tracks.

  • June 7 -- Bullets claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl Sunday evening after a drive-by shooting interrupted what was by all accounts a peaceful block party. The slaying occurred on the corner of Rossell Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, police said, marking the city's ninth homicide this year. Neighbors had gathered at Rossell Avenue for a campaign block party hosted by North Ward city council candidate Divine Allah when a car passed by and its occupants fired into the crowd. Police could not confirm whether the shooting was related to the block party.  So far there are no descriptions of the suspects but police are searching for a green four-door sedan, possibly a Ford Taurus, believed to be linked to the homicide.  Police were also investigating whether the shooting was connected to a similar incident on Saturday night, when a call came for a car with its windshield shot out at the same location.

  • June 7 -- An aggravated assault shooting incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Chambers Street and Euclid Avenue, Trenton, NJ.  The victim was a 27-year-old man of Trenton, NJ. It was reported that while the victim was walking on the area of Chambers Street and Euclid Avenue he was approached by a black male suspect who after directing a profane word at him reached to the small back of his back and pulled a gun.  When the victim became aware that the suspect was armed started to run, but was struck by a bullet in the right calf.  A friend transported the victim to the hospital.   The victim was treated and released.  The suspect was described as a black male wearing blue jeans and a dark hoodie.

  • June 4 -- On Thursday an aggravated assault occurred at approximately 9:55 a.m. at the Mercer County Parking lot opposite 640 South Broad Street, Trenton, NJ. It was reported that while exiting his assigned work vehicle the victim was accosted by the suspect, who demanded money.  During the suspect's demand and for unknown reasons the victim was stabbed in the upper back and leg and deprived of his cash, a cell phone, and a key to the work vehicle.  The suspect, who is described as either a hispanic or black male with light complexion, 5'8" to 5'9", 180 to 190 with a "chin strap" type beard and gray hoody, fled the area "casually."   Area video is being checked and copies will be obtained.  An attempt to track the suspect utilizing a county dog proved negative and a canvass was conducted for evidence and/or witnesses.  There were two civilian security officers who were near the location where the incident occurred, but saw nothing. The victim was transported to Capital Health System at Fuld to be treated.  He was listed in stable condition.

  • June 3 -- Officers were dispatched to Planet Havana, the club on the 400 block of South Broad Street, just after 1:15 a.m. on a shot-fired call. Sgt. Jason Astbury, who had heard the shot, went to the rear of the club and saw Smith down on the ground, shot in the right leg, being attended to by an unidentified man. Investigators are unsure whether Malachi Smith, 29, shot himself, or whether he was shot by 28-year-old Marcus Baker, who police say was about to drive away when a police officer showed up. Police say that neither Smith nor Baker have been cooperative.  Baker was getting into an SUV. With his gun drawn, Astbury ordered Baker out of the vehicle. Baker was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon when a Ruger 9mm was found on the floor of the SUV. Police said the bystander who was helping Smith had nothing to do with the shooting, and that they are not sure what the connection between Baker and Smith is. Ballistics tests will determine whether the weapon found in Baker's SUV was the one used in the shooting, Medina said.
