  • July 30 -- 29 YEAR-OLD FEMALE SHOT TO DEATH BY EX-BOYFRIEND - Trenton Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau Homicide unit was assigned to investigate a domestic violence related homicide that occurred at approximately 9:15 am on Thursday, July 30, 2009 in an apartment located in the 100 block of Rossell Avenue, Trenton, NJ.  The victim was identified as Cassandra Mitchell, 29, of Trenton, NJ.  The suspect was identified as Kyle Givens, 34, Trenton, NJ. Based on the investigation and numerous interviews conducted, detectives were able to establish enough probable cause to issue a warrant for the arrest of Kyle Givens.  Givens is described as a black male, 34 years of age, 5’4” tall, 170 pounds. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Givens is being charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

     
  • July 28 -- At approximately 11:18 pm Tuesday Trenton Police Officers were sent to the 100 block of Randall Avenue on a report of shots fired. When officers arrived they learned that the incident actually occurred in the 400 block of Home Avenue.  The officers located a 17-year-old victim and a 20-year-old victim, who reported that while they we sitting on the porch of a residence located in the 400 block of Home Avenue two black males, who were across the street from them, approached  and fired several shots at them.  One of the shots grazed the 17 year old on her right bicep area, but she refused medical treatment.  The first suspect was described as thin build African American male wearing a camouflage windbreaker style jacket with a hood and dark pants.  The second Suspect was described as a thin build African American male wearing a brown colored windbreaker style jacket with a hood and dark pants.

     
  • July 25 -- On Saturday at approximately 10:13 pm Trenton Police Officers were detailed to an apartment located in the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue on a report of a shooting in progress.  When the officers arrived it was confirmed that a 27-year-old African American male suffered a gunshot wound and that a family member transported him to Capital Health System at Mercer.  The victim is a resident of the City of Trenton, NJ.  It was learned that while the victim was at a tattoo party two unknown black male suspects, with one armed with a handgun, entered the apartment and demanded for the victim to “give it up”, which is usually known to be the demand for money. During this time the armed suspect struck the victim in the nose with the handgun and deprived him of approximately $400.00 dollars.  While in the process of leaving the apartment one of the suspects fired one shot striking the victim in the upper right arm.  The victim’s injury was non life threatening, and underwent surgery to treat a fracture bone to his shoulder. The armed suspect was described as an African American, approximately 5’09”, wearing a black ski mask with a black handgun and the second suspect was described as an African American, approximately 5’11”, wearing a red bandana.

     
  • July 19 -- A 22-year-old city resident was walking in the area of the M&M Bar on Centre Street when he was approached by a masked man holding a handgun. The gunman, described as a black male about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, demanded money, but the victim put up a fight. Police said the gun went off during the struggle, striking the victim in the backside.

  • July 18 -- On Saturday at 12:25 a.m., there was another robbery on the first block of Liberty Street with two gunmen and only one victim. The robbers brandished guns, the victim handed over his money and wallet, and the suspects fled toward Lalor Street. This time though, the victim provided a more detailed description of the bandits. They were said to be black males with thin builds — one was 6 feet tall and the other was 5 foot 2.
     
  • July 17 -- A man and a woman were standing outside a house on the first block of Liberty Street when they were approached by a suspect described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, at 12:24 a.m. Friday. The victims, police said, handed over their cash and their wallets, and the suspect fled toward Lalor Street.
     
  • July 3 -- A city man beaten in February and plagued with problems as a result of his injuries died on Tuesday, June 30.  Francisco Rivera Jr., 56, who was found bloodied in the area of South Cook and Walnut avenues, succumbed to the assault nearly five months later, preliminary autopsy results show. And police are awaiting the receipt of official results to begin a murder investigation. According to police, Rivera was found in the street on the early evening of Sunday, Feb. 8, unconscious and bleeding from the nose. The bystander who located Rivera called 911, and police and Trenton EMS responded.
