  • February 28 -- A city man was robbed of several hundred dollars cash during an armed hold-up early Saturday, police reported.  The 43-year-old victim was walking in the 600 block of Genesee Street around 6:50 a.m. when he was approached by two men. Police said that one of the suspects was armed with a handgun.  The suspects demanded money from the victim, and he complied with their demands, handing out personal papers and $600. After the suspects had fled, the victim reported what had happened to police. Police described the first suspect as an African-American male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 foot 9, with a skinny build and wearing a black hoodie. The second suspect was described as an African-American male, 5 foot 10, with a muscular build and wearing a red hoodie.  Police did not say which suspect was carrying the gun.

     
  • February 27 -- A man who was involved in a fight with two other men inside a home Friday night was eventually taken to a hospital trauma unit, police said.  The 24-year-old city man began arguing with the two suspects inside a home located on the first block of Wainwright Avenue around 8:45 p.m., police said. Dur ing the argument, the 24-year-old was struck about the face, head, and body by the two men. Afterwards, they fled the scene.  Police said the 24-year-old was taken to Capital Health System at Mercer, then to the hospital's Fuld campus, where he was admitted to the Trauma Unit.

     
  • February 22 -- A triggerman in a purple hoodie pulled out a handgun yesterday afternoon and fired multiple shots at a fleeing 21-year-old city man, police said. None of the bullets hit the victim. The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. Sunday on the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue. Police said the victim was walking home when five unknown black males emerged and began beating up the victim. The victim ran to the porch of his house, and that’s when the gunman unloaded a bullet frenzy, police said. Police canvassed the area but failed to locate the gunman.

  • February 21 -- A firearm aggravated assault that occurred Saturday about 4:30 p.m. on the first block of Fairway Drive. In this incident, a gunman in a black hoodie fired multiple shots in the direction of a 19-year-old city man, police said.  None of the bullets hit the teenager. The victim ran to a nearby firehouse, and the cops rushed to the scene soon thereafter. Police canvassed the area but also failed to locate this gunman.

  • February 8 -- A 56 year old male was found unconscious and bleeding on the corner of South Cook and Walnut Avenue.  The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for numerous facial fractures.  He has no recollection of the events of that night and has not been able to describe any suspects.

  • February 6 -- Two men were shot during an apparent home invasion in the city Friday night, police said.
    The scene was an apartment complex on the 100 block of Coolidge Avenue, where reports were around 5:45 p.m. that two men had been shot. Police responded and immediately cordoned off the three-story apartment building, searching the snow outside for evidence and going over the apartment inside. Late last night, police released that two men had been shot, neither with injuries that appeared life-threatening. Police say they are investigating the crime as a home invasion, and recovered a .22 caliber rifle near the scene. Sources in the neighborhood say that one of the men was shot in the head, the other in the arm, and both were the victims in the robbery which took place on the third floor. 

  • February 2 -- At 9:00 p.m. Monday, two young men entered the China Star restaurant on East State Street and pointed a gun at the 39-year-old victim and demanded money, police said. They left the restaurant after he obliged.  The two men are both believed to be young, approximately 15 to 18 years old. The first suspect is 6 feet tall and thin and was wearing a black hooded jacket, dark pants and a black face mask. The second suspect is 5 feet 6 inches, thin and was wearing a similar outfit, police said.

  • February 2 -- Monday night at 8 p.m., two suspects approached a 42-year-old man in the vicinity of Perry and Montgomery streets, police said. The suspects were armed with a sawed-off shotgun or rifle, which the victim attempted to grab, after which he was pushed up against a fence by the suspects and ran away.  The suspects are both believed to be black males. The first was described as dark-skinned, 5 feet 10 inches and weighing 120 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and black ski mask. The second suspect was also wearing a dark sweatshirt and a face mask with orange and white around the mouth.

  • February 2 -- Monday began with the robbery of a man's cell phone on the 500th block of East State Street around 2 p.m. Police said the 48-year-old victim was approached by a black male who began beating him, took his cell phone and attempted to take his wallet before fleeing on foot.  The suspect is described as 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 and 165 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a blue and black jacket, khaki pants and a black ski mask.

  • February 1 -- A sleeping 26-year-old woman in the 1st block of Oak Lane had her parked car shot several times by an unknown gunman at 1:23 a.m. Sunday. No one was injured.
